Double income public servant

Dec 10th, 2009, 8:53 am

Dear Newstalk budget info team,

I am a married public sector employee earning 85k per annum nett. Wife in private sector earning 65k per annum. What will be the additional tax, etc to each of us after todays budget? Do levies and other non paye charges stay the same? Thanks,
Jonathan

Jonathan,

There has been no change to PAYE/PRSI, income or health levies.  Private sector take-home pay will therefore remain unchanged.

Public sector pay cuts will be implemented on a progressive basis for salaries under €125,000.  A gross salary of €85,000 will be reduced to €79,000.  On this basis your joint take home pay will fall by approximately €54 per week.
