Experts warn people to stay off frozen rivers and lakes

Dec 23rd, 2010, 11:23 am

Safety experts are warning about the dangers of walking on ice after wintry conditions have resulted in rivers and canals around the country freezing over.

Yesterday the River Boyne in Drogheda in Co. Louth was frozen for the first time in living memory.

People are being warned however that the ice is just a few millimetres thick.

The ESB is also warning about the serious hazards presented by frozen water surfaces at reservoirs around the country.

Communications Manager with the ESB is Brian Montayne.
