Shatter rules out law on confession

Sep 8th, 2011, 8:41 am

The Justice Minister has admitted new laws on child protection will not specifically state that a priest must break the seal of the confessional to report abuse.

Alan Shatter is now describing the focus on the confessional as a “bogus side issue”.

The Catholic Church has insisted the seal of the confessional could not be broken.

Minister Shatter says his legislation is not going to focus on this.
