
The Ombudsman for the Defence Forces has raised concerns over the moratorium on public sector recruitment.
Paulyn Marrinan-Quinn says the ban is making it increasingly difficult for redress to be offered to members of the Defence Forces.
According to the annual 2010 report for of the Ombudsman 116 complaints were made last year.
37 of them related to selection or promotion procedures.
Meanwhile there are calls for a change in terms of service for some defence forces personnel.
The group representing them has called on the Department of Defence to review the terms for those who joined the after January 1994.
Currently Private soldiers and Corporals and their equivalents in the Air Corps and Naval Service can continue in service for up to 21 years provided certain criteria are met.
The Deputy General Secretary of PDFORRA says this should be extended.
It wants the Department and the Minister to set retirement at 31 years of service.
Simon Devereux says many of these people will be at their very peak in terms of output.
