Jan 10th, 2011, 11:17 am

It is being claimed that the personal details of nearly 4,000 people were obtained during an overnight attack on the Fine Gael website.

The party says it was hacked by a group called ‘Anonymous’ which has been a supporter of Wikileaks.

Evening Herald Journalist Kevin Doyle says he was sent a copy of the site database of 3,800 people who used it to leave comments – including their names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, location and IP addresses.

It is understood Fine Gael has made contact with the Data Protection Commissioner and the Garda Computer Crime Unit.

Kevin Doyle received an e-mail overnight from the group responsible detailing the personal information of those on the site.
