There is speculation that Dana Rosemary Scallon may enter the race for the Presidency.
In May of this year she stated that she would not be interested in running for the Áras.
But sources close to her are suggesting that she is reconsidering following the withdrawal by Senator David Norris yesterday.
In 1997 Dana received the nominations of 5 county councils and finished 3rd in the contest polling over 175,000 first preferences.
It is understood that when the Dáil resumes after the summer break she will canvas TDs and Senators in the hope of securing the 20 signatures needed for her to formally enter the race.
