Emergency services and Dublin City and South-Dublin County Councils are continuing efforts to drain away flood waters.
Heavy rain yesterday evening and last night caused chaos in the East of the country with hundreds of houses and businesses flooded in Dublin.
The equivalent of the total rainfall for October fell within a 6 hour period causing many rivers in the capital to overflow.
A massive clean up operation is now underway as householders and business owners try to assess the damage.
Local authorities – gardai, fire brigade, the HSE and Civil Defence – are still working around the city to try and alleviate severe flooding.
In excess of 80 millimetres of rain fell in a number of hours yesterday.
Meanwhile Met Eireann says there will be outbreaks of rain over north Leinster and the midlands today with some thundery downpours at times.
Connacht and Ulster will be affected early this afternoon.
But the rain will clear to isolated showers with sunny spells.
Tonight will be mostly dry with clear spells but there will be isolated showers in mainly coastal areas.

He says the amount of rain yesterday is very unusual.
