Four new conferences with a potential boost for revenue of almost €11m have been secured for Dublin. Fáilte Ireland made the announcement today.

The conferences include the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers annual meeting bringing 2,300 people, the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association conference, which brings 800 delegates, the British Elbow and Shoulder Society brings 750, and the World of Coffee conference with 4,000 delegates.

The business tourism sector is worth almost €600m to the Irish economy.

Alex Connolly from Failte Ireland says many people who make the trip for business return:

“The average business delegate spends twice as much as a holiday maker, so these people are quite a lucrative target for tourism.

“And the good thing is that these people enjoy themselves so much on a business trip that they inevitably return with their families for holidays in the future

“The announcement today of four new conferences coming is just another indicator that the sector is going from strength to strength.”
