An Irish medical devices firm to is create 125 new jobs in Co. Leitrim. Catheter and extrusion provider VistaMed has opened an extension to its Carrick-on-Shannon manufacturing facility.

The announcement is part of a new investment programme of more than €7 million, supported by the Department of Jobs through Enterprise Ireland.

Recruitment for these positions is on-going and positions are expected to be filled by the end of the year.

This new investment is in response to increased demand in the global medical device market for catheter and stent delivery systems.

Officially opening the new facility, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said "Today's news that, with the support of my Department through Enterprise Ireland, VistaMed is creating 125 new jobs as part of a €7 million investment programme is a great boost for Leitrim and for the whole country".

Managing Director of VistaMed, Patrick Mulholland said "This new extension will allow us to offer an even more comprehensive design and development service that combined with the addition of sophisticated equipment will enable us to continue to offer a world class service to the global medical device industry".

The 35,000 square foot expansion of the Carrick-on-Shannon facility includes 12,000 square foot of cleanroom, which the firm is required to meet the growing need for diverse braided catheter assemblies.
