There will not be any special public holiday to celebrate the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

The government has decided to oppose Sinn Féin legislation that would have made April 24th 'Republic Day'.

Sinn Féin say it would celebrate the day that Padraig Pearse read the proclamation from the GPO in Dublin.

Sinn Féin TD Aengus O'Snodaigh says he thinks the special circumstances should allow a special public holiday.
