Nov 6th, 2009, 11:46 am

Starbucks has seen it profits rise to €100 million despite sales continuing to fall.

The coffee shop chain says it’s benefited from lower costs after it closed more than 900 stores over the past year.

The Seattle-based company has more than 16,000 shops worldwide with about two-thirds of them based in in the US.

The news comes after a planned closure of five Starbucks outlets in Dublin was recently completed.

The company said in January it would close 100 international stores to save money.

All affected  employees were offered positions in other outlets.

It first opened in the Republic at Dundrum Town Centre in August 2005.

The company says it has no further plans to close stores here.
