A digger has been used to steal two ATMs and a substantial sum of money in County Cavan.

A tractor carrying the digger arrived in Cootehill at around 5.30am.

Two ATMs, one from the Bank of Ireland in the town and the other from the Ulster Bank branch, were removed from the buildings by a gang.

Gardai say substantial damage has been caused.

An investigation is underway and no arrests have been made.
