Dublin drug dealer Brian Rattigan has been convicted of murdering a 21 year old man outside Abrakebabra in Crumlin eight years ago.
The 28 year old from Cooley Road, Drimnagh, got out of a car and fatally stabbed Declan Gavin in the early hours of August 25th, 2001.
This was described by the prosecution as a deliberate and targeted attack.
A Nissan Micra pulled up outside Abrakebabra and to shouts of ‘rat’ a masked man armed with a large butcher knife got out of the car and stabbed Declan Gavin in the heart.
A bloodied hand print on the glass of the fast food restaurant placed Rattigan at the scene.
This was a retrial after an earlier jury failed to agree on a verdict. This time it took the jurors over 11 hours to find the accused guilty.
The 28 year old, who is a well known crime figure who once resisted arrest by shooting at a police car, gave no reaction in court and simply said ‘OK your honour’ as Judge George Bermingham jailed him for life.
