Tributes have been paid throughout the day for Garda Gary Mc Loughlin.

The 24 year old Garda from Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim died from injuries he sustained in a crash while on duty in Buncrana, Co. Donegal in the early hours of Sunday.

Both the Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy and the Justice Minister Dermot Ahern have expressed their sympathies to the young officers family.

Superintendent at Buncrana Garda Station Willie Johnston says there’s been an outpouring of support from the local community:

“The community here in Buncrana have been absolutely overwhelming with their support for the Garda station and all the staff here at this time” he said.

“They joined us last night for a service in the station” he added.
