Tell Me a Story

August 23rd 2009 (repeated August 29th)
Producer: Francesca Lalor

Francesca Lalor transports the listener to the annual Cape Clear Island Storytellers Festival where she meets with the storytellers to hear the tales behind the stories, and to hear about their own lives, their backgrounds, and how they came to be tellers. ‘It’s this inner world that fascinates me about stories’, says Welsh Storyteller, Daniel Morden, ‘That one human being can stand in front of a group of other people, and there’s a sort of a shared hallucination, purely conjured by words…’ The festival has developed a reputation as the place to hear tales ancient and modern, a place where people join to share their folklore, and to participate in the revival of the oral tradition.
