Different Voices Season 4 Episode 3 “Once Upon a Stone”

Sep 6th, 2009, 9:57 am

Once Upon The Stone
September 6th 2009 (repeated September 12th)
Producer: David Loftus and Tinpot Productions

The Tain Bo Cuailnge, or Cattle Raid of Cooley, is one of the most celebrated and widely known stories in Irish pre-Christian mythology. Central to The Tain is the character of Queen Medb. Traditionally, we imagine her to be a powerful and independent woman, a treacherous fury to be both feared and venerated. Once Upon the Stone offers a new perspective on this thinking, explaining the crucial elements of the Tain and extrapolating a new reading of Queen Medb through interviews, poetry, sound effects and dramatic readings.
