500 volunteers are being sought to house some of the worlds poorest people.
Housing charity, Havan is looking to build on the success of the first ‘Build It Week’ less than a month ago in which 260 volunteers built 41 houses in just one week in Haiti.
Founder of the house-building charity, Corkman Leslie Buckley is attempting to double his ambitions for next years build.
Haven is holding two trips to Haiti in 2010 – one at the end of April and the second at the end of October.
Organiser Deirdre Grant says its a very rewarding challenge.
“This really is a life-changing experience” she said.
“Not only for the people you are building houses for out in Haiti, but also for yourself – you get to meet people who you’d never meet before”.
“You work long hours, you have very, very basic conditions in which you’re living in – but at the end of the week you really do feel 10 feet tall knowing that your contribution means that a poor family, who have never had a proper home before, for the first time have a decent roof over their head” she added.
