AIB’s Public Interest Director Dick Spring – says Colm Doherty emerged as the best candidate for Managing Director of the bank – after an exhaustive, comprehensive and independently assessed search.
In a statement this evening, Mr. Spring said he could absolutely guarantee – that AIB was fully committed to finding the best person to lead the organisation.
It follows controversy in the past two days, when opposition parties criticised the appointment of the AIB executive – saying the ‘Old Guard’ was still in place.
Earlier the Minister for Finance welcomed Mr. Doherty’s decision to have his salary capped at half a million euro – rather than 633 thousand euro as proposed by AIB.
