Govt & Union talks on public sector reform

The government has told public sector trade unions that it has no intention of ending the embargo on civil service recruitment.

Union leaders, who met with department of Finance officials this evening, also believe the government will go further and cut jobs in next months budget.

Earlier the Taoiseach has told the Dail that some progress would have to be made in the talks this week – if a deal was to be reached ahead of the budget.

Emerging from the discussions IMPACT’s Peter McCloone said the government has yet to make it clear home many jobs it intends to cut from the civil service.
