HSE welcomes publication of report on care of children

The HSE and the Children’s Minister have welcomed the publication today of a HIQA report on standards of care for children in foster care.

The report found evidence of good practice but also identified a number of lapses in vetting procedures and training for staff.

But Chief Inspector with HIQA, Dr Marion Witton says it’s important that the recommendations are implemented.

“First of all we’re calling for them to put in post a national director to take responsibility” she said.

“Many of the findings, particularly those where the recommendations from previous reports had not been attended to, that we want to see somebody who takes accountability”.

“We want somebody to take direct responsibility to do something” she added.
