Irish student to present at MTV Awards

An Irish student will present an award at the MTV European Music Awards in Berlin tonight.

21 year old Gillian Deegan from Athy in County Kildare was amongst a group of 100 competitors challenged to walk 300 kilometres in 10 days in order to win tickets to the show.

Not only did she win tickets – her fellow walkers voted for her to get the opportunity to present the Best Newcomer Award – tonight she’ll party with the likes of Jay-Z, Shakira and Beyonce.

Speaking from Berlin this morning, Gillian said it’s an unreal experience.

“Yeah, I’m absolutely delighted; it’s not really clicking with me” she said.

“Everyone keeps mentioning it to me, but I’m like ‘Ah yeah, yeah, whatever!’ I’m just going to see a concert or something”.

“I don’t think (I’m) realising that I’m actually going to be part of it – so I’ll have a bit of a freak out later on tonight!” she added.
