Released aid worker to travel home on Monday

The goverment jet is being prepared to travel to Sudan to bring home freed Irish aid worker Sharon Commins.

The 33 year old GOAL volunteer and her Ugandan colleague Hilda Kawuki were released this morning after 107 days being held hostage.

In a statement, the two women thanked everyone involved in negotiating their release, and said they found strength in each other and in their friendship during their long ordeal.

Speaking in County Kildare this afternoon, Taoiseach Brian Cowen praised the bravery and resilience of the two women
