Scientists smash proton beams together

Nov 24th, 2009, 6:42 am

Scientists operating the large Hadron Collider have smashed together proton beams for the first time.

The huge physics experiment is taking place in a tunnel under the French-Swiss border.

It aims to discover how the universe came into existence.

It’s only four days since the “Big Bang Machine” was switched back on after being halted by an accident 14 months ago.
