Fine Gael’s promising to abolish the Seanad and cut the number of TD’s by at least 20 if successful at the next general election.
Party leader Enda Kenny’s made the announcement to a gathering of around 1300 supporters in Dublin tonight.
Enda Kenny’s told the gathering the pay of the Taoiseach and Ministers has to be dramatically cut, in line with other countries.
Saying the Seanad is no longer justified, Fine Gael would put its abolition to the people in a referendum, and cut the number of TD’s by at least 20.
These measures he says could save the taxpayer up to 150 million over 5 years.
