Aer Lingus is to impose 230 compulsory redundancies among its cabin crew – who rejected the airline’s cost cutting plan.
The company – which employs over 1,000 cabin crew – will now press ahead with its restructuring deal, which includes shedding 670 jobs.
The remaining 440 jobs will go on a voluntary basis – from the 4 staff groupings who voted to accept the 97 million euro cost saving programme.
The Aer Lingus Chief Executive – Christoph Mueller – says the airline will stick to its word with those who voted for the plan.
“There will be no sweet-heart deal with cabin (crew) – I believe that is my understanding of fairness” he said.
“Someone who votes ‘no’ to a proposition should not get an easier way out than the ones who have voted in favour”.
“Retaliation is not our business, it will have no elements of that nature”.
“There will be no re-balloting” he added.
