Airport terminal to create 400 retail jobs

Apr 1st, 2010, 10:48 am

At least 400 new jobs are to be created at 40 retail outlets in the new Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport.

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said the jobs at the new Terminal, due to open in November, will mostly be provided by third party retailers set to include bookseller WH Smith and fashion group Azure.

A range of new shops, restaurants, and bars will also be located in the terminal.

“Retail is an integral element of the modern airport experience and Terminal Two will offer passengers a comprehensive choice of outlets,” said Dublin Airport Authority Retail Director Paul Neeson.

“Despite the downturn, there has been huge interest in T2′s retail space and we are delighted to have secured an impressive portfolio of Irish and international retailers,” he added.

The main retail area within T2 will be the international departures lounge.

T2 will contain about 9,000 square metres of retail, food and beverage outlets.

According to the DAA, some 70% of passengers make some purchase as they travel through Dublin Airport and for more than one third of passengers airport shopping is seen as a core element of their trip.
