The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced that it is leaving its main interest rate unchanged at 1%.
The President of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet will comment on the decision at a press conference later.
It is cold comfort though for many Irish mortgage holders.
Bank of Ireland announced an increase in its variable rates to kick in from next week while AIB confirmed yesterday it will announce similar hikes in the weeks ahead.
