It is being reported that the Green Party has changed its position on the fate of Anglo Irish Bank and is now seeking a ‘quicker wind down’ of the bank.
As the Cabinet prepares to meet on Wednesday it is expected Green Ministers John Gormley and Eamon Ryan will tell government colleagues that their party no longer supports plans to split Anglo into a good and bad bank or an orderly wind down.
The Greens are instead believed to now favour a wind down of Anglo as soon as possible.
It comes as concern grows about the growing costs of propping up Anglo to the taxpayer.
Alan Dukes is chairman of Anglo Irish Bank.
“I don’t think they’re right but it’s not my business to talk about the relationship between the Greens and Fianna Fail” he said.
“All I can say is that our plan is designed to minimise the cost to the tax payer”.
“If anybody – Dan Boyle or John Gormley or anybody else – wants to come to me and talk to me about what’s in our plan, I’d be quite happy to talk to them any day” he added.
