Prices here are the second highest in the EU.
A new Europe wide study has found that Irish consumers pay more for most foods, non-alcoholic drinks and tobacco products.
This new Eurostat survey has found that prices in Ireland are 29% higher than the European average making us the second most expensive EU State.
This puts us behind only Denmark where prices are 40% above average.
Bread, ceral and dairy products are all far more expensive here, costing 32 and 37% above the average EU prices respectively.
Ireland also has the 5th highest price for meat among the 27 EU member states.
Alcohol costs 67% above the EU average here while tobacco prices in Ireland are a massive 217% higher than those in our fellow European member States making Irish tobacco products the most expensive in the EU.
In contrast Bulgaria, Romania and Poland had the cheapest food and drink prices within the EU.
