There’s mixed news on the jobs front today.
Musgraves Cash and Carry has announced 80 position are to be lost – 55 in the Republic and 25 in the North.
While 90 new jobs are to be created by the 3 mobile network, and 21 new jobs are on the way at an electrical design and manufacturing plant in Cavan town.
80 jobs are to be phased out at Musgraves Cash and Carry over the next six months.
55 of them will be in the Republic and 25 in the North.
The company – which employs over 1,000 people across 13 depots – is blaming the downturn in the food services sector for the decision.
The company has begun a consultation process with unions and staff affected.
Meanwhile, the 3 mobile network announced today that it is opening 28 new stores around the country which will result in 90 new positions.
The company currently has 22 stores and a customer base of over 470,000 users.
3 will invest €5 million in its expansion and will begin recruitment immediately.
And Compton Greaves is to hire 21 new staff – bringing the total workforce at its plant in Cavan town to 430.
