An Bord Pleanála has given the green light for a new Women and Children hospital in Dublin.

Landmark Developments and the Beacon Medical Group (BMG) have been granted planning permission to build the state of the art 120 bed facility in Sandyford.

The hospital will be privately operated and can be used by both private and public patients.

550 people will employed during the construction of the hospital.

Meanwhile 450 people will be employed at the facility when it is up and running.

The hospital will be located next to the Beacon General Hospital.

A spokesman for Landmark and BMG said “We are very pleased that the Bord has granted permission for this urgently needed and worthwhile project that will bring enormous benefits to the region, particularly in the South Dublin/Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area and nationally”.

There are plans to have 24 hour obstetrician, neo-natal and anaesthesia coverage.
