Sky loses ITV appeal

Jan 21st, 2010, 10:53 am

BSkyB has lost its latest challenge at the Court of Appeal over its stake in ITV.

The satellite broadcaster was unhappy at the British government’s decision to force it to reduce its 17.9% share in the company.

BSkyB’s been ordered to cut its holding to 7.5%.

The Competition Commission in the UK ruled the group’s shareholding gave it influence over ITV’s strategy in a way that restricts the market.

BSkyB is estimated to supply TV services to around 600,000 homes in Ireland.
