A new survey shows that three-quarters of the population think our abortion laws should be overhauled.
The YouGov poll also shows high levels of support for increased access to the procedure.
The Irish Family Planning Association has welcomed the report.
The newly published poll reflects a significant change in attitudes towards abortion, with three quarters of people in favour of an overhaul of existing laws.
78 percent say a woman should be allowed to have an abortion in Ireland if her health is in danger, or if the pregnancy is a result of sexual abuse or rape.
Support for abortion here jumps to 87 percent if it’s a case that the women’s life is endangered by pregnancy.
44 out of 47 European counties currently provide abortion to protect women’s health
The I-F-P-A says Ireland is out of step with these laws and is calling on the government to stop exiling women in crisis pregnancy.
