Council buys land for Poolbeg incinerator

Aug 17th, 2010, 7:28 am

Dublin City Council has issued a compulsory purchase order to buy land for the site of the Poolbeg incinerator.

It is being seen as a snub to the Environment Minister John Gormley who believes the project is too big for the needs of Dublin and in whose constituency the proposed site is located.

The move means the Council no longer has to wait for the Minister to grant a foreshore licence for the project and it can proceed without one.

The joint venture partner on the project US- based Covanta Energy had asked the council to ‘get the ball rolling’ on the plan which its thought could create 600 construction jobs.
