Disappointment for Barry, as Roddick crashes out

Jan 26th, 2010, 8:32 am

There was disappointment for Ireland’s Sam Barry at the Australian Open in Melbourne this morning.

The Limerick teenager lost in the second round of the Boys Junior Singles, going down in straight sets to Britain’s Oliver Golding.

The 17 year old’s attempts to bounce back in the doubles also failed to go according to plan…he and his New Zealander partner also lost in straight sets.

However it’s been a superb tournament for Barry who became the first Irish player to win a junior match at a Grandslam event.

Meanwhile Justin Henin’s incredible return to the game has continued, the Belgian is through to last 4 after a straight sets win over Nadia Petrova.

However there was bad news for 7th seed Andy Roddick.

Despite battling back from 2 sets down against Marin Cilic of Croatia, the American then lost 6-3 in the 5th.
