Disputed Ryanair jobs go to Germany

May 20th, 2010, 2:13 pm

Ryanair has revealed that 200 jobs which they wanted to create at Hangar Six at Dublin Airport, are instead going to Germany.

The low fares airline was embroiled in a bitter dispute with the Tanaiste Mary Coughlan at the start of the year, after she insisted she would not force Aer Lingus to row back on its lease for the building previously occupied by SR Technics.

Instead the jobs are now going to Frankfurt Hahn.

Ryanair Spokesman Michael Cawley says the approach of the German government could not have been more different than the reception they received here.

“We identified hanger six as both available, built, empty at the time and in the ideal location for our use” he said.

“And we were sent half way to Longford for the location…that we were being offered”.

“But we had a vacant hanger – which is still vacant by the way – 90% of it unused”.

“And we have a government here which professes to be chasing jobs, to be trying to make the country competitive and it’s loosing to a relatively high-cost economy like Germany” he added,
