Eating disorders to top agenda at Oireachtas committee

Eating disorders and obesity will be under the spotlight later as agencies who deal with the problems appear  before an Oireachtas Committee

The Committee on Health and children will hear submissions from the Food Safety Authority, Bodywhys and medical experts working in the sector

Up to 200 thousand people in Ireland are thought to be affected by eating disorders – with 400 new cases a year.

Professor Fiona McNicholas – a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who treats those with eating disorders says it’s hard to pinpoint why the phenomenon is increasing.
