Tobey Maguire won’t be returning as Spider-Man next year.

The actor’s announced that he and director Sam Raimi have left the franchise.

Instead, a new Spider-Man film – based on Peter Parker in High School – will be released in 2012, with a new cast and film-making team.

It follows reports last week that work on a fourth instalment had stalled amid script revisions.
