Westmeath County Council is planning to call the newest bridge in Mullingar the Joe Dolan Memorial Bridge.
The structure is located on the Tullamore Road and is due to open in September.
Labour Councillor Michael Dollard told Midlands 103 News that it is a great honour for the famous singer who passed away in December 2007.
“Joe Dolan now he brought so much joy to the lives of people – not just in Westmeath or Mullingar – but right throughout Ireland (and) indeed internationally” he said.
“I think it’s a very fitting tribute now to Joe” he added.
