The Economic and Social Research Institute is giving its backing to the controversial Poolbeg incinerator in Dublin.

The ESRI, which is publishing a report on municipal waste management today, estimates there will be sufficient waste available to make the plant viable.

The claim contradicts the position of the Environment Minister John Gormley , who maintains the 600,000 tonne facility is too big.
