EU calls for improved child safety on internet

Feb 9th, 2010, 6:41 am

Fifty percent of European teenagers give out information on the internet that can remain online forever and be seen by anybody.

That’s according to the European Commission, which is calling on social networking companies to improve child safety on the net.

It says that less than half of social networking companies have default settings that make profiles of under 18s visible only to their friends.

The Commission is also urging teenagers to think carefully before they post information or images online.
