Fenlon stuck with Bohemians

Jan 8th, 2010, 6:44 pm

Pat Fenlon looks as though he may have to remain in the League of Ireland after Bohemians confirmed that they have broken off negotiations with Dundee United. The SPL club were hoping to appoint Fenlon as their new manager, but Bohs say that they have been unable to agree on a satisfactory compensation package. The Scottish side have responded by saying that they’ll now turn their attention towards other targets – accusing Bohemians of making “excessive” compensation demands. Fenlon was understood to have already agreed personal terms with United and it remains to be seen how he will react to the two clubs’ failure to reach an agreement. Bohemians confirmed the development in a brief statement: “Bohemian FC confirms the breakdown today of negotations with Dundee United on terms to allow team manager Pat Fenlon join Dundee United as manager. Bohemian FC gave Dundee United permission on Tuesday 5 January to talk to Pat Fenlon about joining them. Bohemians had wished to retain the services of Pat Fenlon, but it did not want to prevent him taking up a deserved opportunity to manage a football team operating on a bigger stage. Bohemian FC indicated clearly to Dundee United that compensation would need to be paid. Discussions over the last 24 hours on compensation to be paid to Bohemian FC by Dundee United failed to produce a mutually satisfactory package.” United’s other reported targets have included Fulham reserve team manager Billy McKinlay, Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn and St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes. Peter Houston, United’s caretaker boss, ruled himself out of the running for the job because he feels he is too familiar with the players. Houston was placed in temporary charge last month after Levein agreed to succeed George Burley as Scotland manager.
