Fine Gael plans to force a vote in the Dail this week on the reduction in pay cuts for senior civil servants.

120 assistant secretaries won’t be subject to the same cuts as lower paid civil servants because their bonus scheme was taken away last year.

However, trade unions and the opposition say this is wholly unfair as those earning more are taking less of a hit than lower paid earners.
