Finance watchdog sees no complaints from ash cloud crisis

May 26th, 2010, 10:25 am

The Financial Ombudsman says so far no complaints have been made to his office arising out of the ash crisis.

William Prasifka also says very few complaints have been received following flooding in Cork and other parts of the country at the beginning of the year.

Overall, the number of complaints received so far this year is down on the same period in 2009.

But Mr. Prasifka is warning there is a significant backlog of unresolved complaints because his office cannot keep up with demand.

“In the first five months of 2010, we are seeing – effectively – a stabilisation of that backlog” he said.

“We are currently resolving as many cases as come forward”.

“However, we simply have not begun to take care of the backlog” he added.
