Two people being questioned by Gardai in connection with an alleged plot to kill a Sweedish cartoonist are expected to appear in court this morning when Gardai will apply to have their period of detention extended.

Five others – who were also arrested on Tuesday – appeared before Waterford District Court last night when Gardai were given permission to detain them for a further 72 hours.

The seven people are being detained in connection with an alleged conspiracy to murder Lars Vilks who was at the centre of a row over drawings of the Prophet Muhammad in 2007.
