The government is being accused of “kicking” the people of Ireland.
The Labour Leader is again demanding the outstanding by-elections should be held.
Eamon Gilmore is today unveiling Frank McBrearty Junior as his party’s candidate in Donegal South West, and says Fianna Fail are putting their party ahead of the country.
Deputy Gilmore says Fianna Fail’s political strategy is to cling on to office and hope things improve so that the public will forget.
I think the only people who are getting kicked here are the public” he said.
“People here want the opportunity of having their say at the ballot box and having a fresh choice and a new choice of candidates at an election – and they’re being denied that by Fianna Fail for one reason only”.
“And that (reason) is that Fianna Fail are now afraid to face the electorate and they want to put the date of an election as far into the future as possible, in the hope that things will turn around and people will forget what they have done to the economy” he added.
