Jul 1st, 2010, 10:18 am

The first hurricane of the season is affecting the oil-spill clean up in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hurricane Alex has hit land in Mexico and led to tornadoes in neighbouring Texas.

The category 2 storm is packing 110 mile per hour winds and heavy rains.

Six foot waves are battering beaches in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida which already affected by the oil leak and tar balls.

“We drove about 1,200 miles from Carlton, Georgia trying to get away from the oil; we got here on Sunday and found a hurricane so we’ve got to make the best of a bad lot” one man said.

“This ain’t nothing but a little rain” a woman added.

“We just put our sandbags up and decided to wait it out” another man said.
