Izevbekhai facing massive legal costs, say lawyers

Jul 14th, 2010, 12:34 pm

Lawyers for Pamela Izevbekhai say she is facing High Court costs of well over €100,000.

The Nigerian mother of three will not have to pay State costs in her latest appeal to try stop her deportation following a Supreme Court ruling this morning.

Last week the court ruled the Minister for Justice did not have a discretion to reopen her asylum  application which centres on a claim her daughters Jemima and Naomi are at risk of female genital mutilation if deported.

Her solicitor Matthew Ezeani says he is concerned about his clients ability to pay.

“I don’t know whether Pamela will be able (to pay)” he said.

“She’s a single mother, she has no means, she’s dependent on handouts to live in this jurisdiction”.

“So I don’t know; it’s a thing of concern for her whether the State will be going after her for costs” he added.
