Libya plane crash kills over 100, boy survives

May 12th, 2010, 10:21 am

A passenger plane has crashed in Libya killing at least 104 people.

The Libyan-operated Airbus was flying from South Africa and crashed as it attempted to land at Tripoli airport.

There are reports an eight year old Dutch boy may be the sole survivor of Afriqiyah Airways flight 8U771.

At least 93 passengers and 11 crew were on board the Airbus 330 of various nationalities.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin has expressed his shock at the incident, and says the Irish Embassy in Rome is liaising with authorities in Libya to find out if any Irish people were on board.
