The single largest investment in the history of the State for 3rd-level research will be announced by the Taoiseach today.
UCD and Trinity College Dublin have secured a major share of the funds which the Government hopes will give a sharper commercial focus to research activity.
In the past decade over €800 million has been invested in the 3rd-level research programme.
Business Journalist Mark Mortell says the announcement today marks a very positive step.
This is €359 million of funding into 3rd level institutions” he said.
“It’s around 30 research projects that’ll be hosted in the various colleges to create hi-tech employment and hopefully drive economic recovery” he added.
